2. Celebrate

Have an engagement shoot and/or plan an engagement party – While the moment is still fresh, plan something fun! Get your family and friends together for a party to celebrate. Schedule a photoshoot so that you can share some gorgeous images when you make an official announcement. Pro Tip: You can also use these for your save the dates later on.

3. Choose A Location

If you have always dreamed about getting married in your hometown, this will be an easy one for you! If you’re unsure about the exact location, consider an area that is significant to you and your fiance. Do you want to have a destination wedding? Or do you want to stay a little closer to home?

4. Set A Date

If you don’t have your heart set on a specific date, that’s fine, and it will actually give you more options when it comes to your vendor’s availability. However, you should at least have a time of year in mind.

5. The Dreaded ‘B’ Word

Have a conversation with your fiance and your families (if they plan to contribute) about the budget. You’ll need to have your finances in order before you start shopping for venues and checking out other wedding vendors.

6. Draft Your Guest List

Once you have a better idea of how much you can spend on your wedding, you can begin drafting your guest list. You’ll want to write down the VIPS first, and then have a backup list in case your dream venue or your budget cannot accommodate everybody.

7. Develop Your Style

Grab some wedding magazines or create a wedding Pinterest board (if you don’t have one already) to get some inspiration. What colors are you drawn to? Are there any details that you can’t live without? Remember to keep your budget in mind, and be realistic about what you want. If you’re able to come up with a color palette and/or style, it will be much easier to communicate exactly what you want to your vendors.

8. Hire A Wedding Planner

Wedding planning is a full time job, and it can be overwhelming. If your budget allows for it, and you’re finding yourself dreading the wedding planning process, hire a wedding planner. Let somebody else worry about the details so that you can celebrate this wonderful time in your life.

Enjoy your engagement and try not to stress about the small stuff. Make a plan so that you can stay organized, and set aside some dedicated time to take breaks from the planning. Set up a date night with your fiance, schedule a massage, or get together with some friends. Remember that your wedding is a celebration of your love and your new life together, so have fun with it!

  1. Love your tips, especially the first one. It gets very exciting to jump right in to planning after the engagement, but savoring the moment would be a fantastic pause before the big series of events.
