Wedding rehearsals are one of those moments couples don’t always think much about—until they’re standing at the ceremony site with their entire wedding party wondering where to go and what to do.
A well-run rehearsal sets the tone for the entire wedding day. It helps everyone feel confident, relaxed, and ready for the big moment. The good news? With just a little preparation, rehearsals can be smooth, efficient, and even fun.
These wedding rehearsal tips will help you keep things organized, relaxed, and ready for the moment you’ve been waiting for.
Your rehearsal doesn’t need to include everyone attending the wedding. In fact, the smoothest rehearsals usually keep the group fairly small.
Plan to include the people who are actually part of the ceremony processional: the couple, officiant, wedding party, parents or grandparents who will be walking down the aisle, and anyone doing a reading.
The fewer people involved, the easier it is to run through everything quickly and clearly.
One of our favorite wedding rehearsal tips is to actually start at the end.
Instead of beginning with the processional, we like to start by walking everyone through the recessional first. This helps the wedding party understand exactly where they’ll be standing during the ceremony and where they’ll walk once everything concludes.
Once everyone is in position at the altar, we then walk the wedding party back down the aisle and reset for the processional. From there, practicing the entrance becomes much easier because everyone already understands where they’re headed.
It’s a simple trick, but it helps the entire rehearsal feel much more intuitive.
One full walkthrough is usually enough.
You want everyone to understand the flow, but rehearsals shouldn’t feel like a full stage production. A quick practice of the processional and recessional is typically all that’s needed to give everyone confidence.
Remember: your wedding party isn’t auditioning for Broadway. They just need to know where to walk.
One of the simplest wedding rehearsal tips is to designate someone to lead the rehearsal. This might be your wedding planner, venue coordinator, or officiant.
Having one person guide the group keeps everyone focused, answers questions quickly, and prevents the rehearsal from turning into a group brainstorming session.
A little direction goes a long way.
Once the rehearsal is complete, the best next step is simple: celebrate.
Rehearsal dinners are a wonderful way to thank your wedding party and spend time with close family before the excitement of the wedding day. Whether it’s a relaxed dinner, cocktails by the water, or a casual gathering with friends, this moment allows everyone to unwind and enjoy the anticipation of the big day ahead.
Because after all the planning, the celebration is finally about to begin.
